How do I tell my parents I want to become a Wiccan?

My parents have no connection to any sort of spiritual religions, and we aren't religious in any way. I've been considering lying, saying I want to study the witchcraft for a story I'm writing, so that they'll get me a few books, but I'm not sure that's the way to go... They'd find incriminating evidence eventually - like the alter I'm working on. If you have any ideas, anything, they'd be really welcome. Plus, I'd love to meet a real witch, if there are any here that can give a total beginner advice.
