Why do progressive movements continue to blanket their agenda in pacifist dogma?

There's a tagline from one of my favorite movies: "Guns change governments much quicker than votes." It may not be an ideal situation, but it doesn't make that fact any less true. Pacifism will work only with other pacifists, not with others who are content with the destruction of your civilization.
