Why is the our generation, 25 plus, so enthralled by Dan Brown?
Such infatuation may be seen as a symptom of a decline in our ability to think critically but I accept that we may not be as weak-minded as we may appear. Lightweight books, plays and TV programmes have been around for a long time yet society has not gone down the drain so maybe all this stuff is just harmless fun. It might, perhaps, be a little arrogant to suggest one form of art is more worthy than another. There will always be people who are taken-in by the sloppy reasoning of fantasists like Dan Brown but there seem to be enough people who retain their mental faculties and have some idea of how to use them. I am more impressed by a man's words and actions than by what he reads for relaxation. Sadly, at times, that means disappointment but I see that as MY problem.
