What is the original name of Dvorak's "American" quartet?

My friends have been bugging me about this for awhile now. They claim to have had someone tell them that the Dvorak was planning on naming his "American" quartet something different... However, when I did a google search I couldn't find anything. Are they just giving me crap or is this one true?
